Nissan plans to start producing the Nissan Murano SUV at its St Petersburg plant in early 2011, Fujio Hosaka, head of the firm’s Russian manufacturing subsidiary, has said.
Hosaka, speaking at a news conference, also said that the plant would switch to operating in two shifts in June from one shift currently.
The plant currently produces the Nissan Teana and X-Trail models.
The plant is expected to produce 50,000 cars per year once it reaches its full capacity.
Nissan has consistently been among the more optimistic of the OEMs with Russian operations, its executives eyeing Russia market recovery from this year. However, the Russian car market has remained resolutely depressed so far this year.
