Nissan has halted operations at its St Petersburg plant in Russia for 16 days from 16 March until 31 March due to sluggish sales.
A company spokeswoman told Reuters Nissan planned to suspend hiring and not extend temporary contracts of workers at the plant.
The automaker makes the Pathfinder, Teana, Murano and X-Trail in the factory.
Nissan plans eventually to double annual capacity to 100,000 vehicles.
