Sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia plunged 58% year on year in May.
The Association of European Businesses (AEB) added that sales fell 47% year on year from January to May, according to an AFP report.
“There are some signs that the pace of decline in the Russian market is slowing but there is still considerable variation between individual segments,” David Thomas, chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, was quoted as saying.
Last month, 119,376 new cars and light vehicles were sold, and 645,162 in the first five months of the year.
“So far government support measures have not been able to stop the decrease in [auto] sales,” Martin Jahn, the committee’s vice chairman, was quoted as saying, calling for more money and support measures.
