Lada will sell its new small-segment car, the Kalina, in western Europe starting early next year, reported Automotive News Europe.
Over the next two years the Russian brand also will replace its aging Lada 110, 111 and 112 family of lower-medium sedans, station wagons and hatchbacks with a new model called the Priora, which is expected to compete against the Hyundai Accent.
Lada will launch the Kalina as a sedan in western European in the first half of 2006, followed by a five-door hatchback and a station wagon version in 2007. The car will compete against the Chevrolet Kalos/Aveo and the Skoda Fabia.
The Kalina will be powered by a 1.6-litre, 90hp petrol engine. Prices will start at less than EUR10,000.
Lada’s parent, AvtoVAZ, launched the Kalina in Russia in November 2004. By 2007, AvtoVAZ aims to build 220,000 units a year at its factory in Togliatti, Russia.
