Automatic transmissions and continuously variable transmission manufacturer, JATCO, has started shipments to AvtoVAZ for its Lada Granta model.
JATCO began shipment of 4-speed automatic transmissions for small FWD vehicles at the end of May produced in the Japanese company’s Fuji Area No. 4 plant.
The 4-speed ATs will be installed in AvtoVAZ’s Lada Granta, which is scheduled to be launched in Russia from August this year, with around 80,000 units per year to be supplied.
The deal represents the first business JATCO has concluded with a Russian company, while it is also the first time an automatic transmission car has been launched by AvtoVAZ.
JATCO also opened its Togliatti representative office on 15 June in Togliatti, Samara Region where the AvtoVAZ headquarters is located.
“The 4-speed ATs supplied by JATCO will be the first two-pedal car for many customers in Russia,” said JATCO president and CEO, Takashi Hata.
“JATCO will spare no efforts in attracting even more customers in the Russian market to accept two-pedal vehicles.”
JATCO is headquartered in Shizuoka, Japan and says it is the number one continuously variable transmission manufacturer in the world with nearly half of the market share.
The company is 75% owned by Nissan, 15% by Mitsubishi and 10% by Suzuki.
