Honda Motor is reportedly taking steps to establish a manufacturing presence in Russia.
A report in the Nikkei newspaper says that it has submitted a plan for an assembly plant in Russia to the Russian authorities.
The newspaper report said that the factory will likely have a production capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 units per year.
The company will discuss the factory’s location with the Russian government, but coastal regions in Russia’s Far East are considered potential candidates, the Nikkei said.
Foreign direct investment in Russia’s auto industry is mainly concentrated in the Moscow-St.Petersburg area, but the Russian government is thought to be keen on establishing new investment elsewhere within the country.
