Ksenia Komyagina, the purchasing manager at GM Russia, told reporters that the new plant is expected to start production in November of this year and initially the plant will produce Chevrolet Captiva and Opel Antara cars.

Prime-Tass reported that Komyagina also said the automaker planned to launch production of a new C-class car model at the plant sometime in January-March 2010.

The plant is expected to annually produce about 45,000 Chevrolet Lacetti J300 cars and 55,000-60,000 C-class cars, Komyagina added.

Currently, GM cars are assembled at the company’s Arsenal plant in St Petersburg. GM also has a joint venture in Russia with the country’s largest carmaker, AvtoVAZ, and it assembles cars at the Kaliningrad-based assembly plant Avtotor.
