According to local reports the facility had been being upgraded with new equipment in order to produce Chevrolet Cruze cars.

The plant is now functioning normally, a spokesperson was quoted saying by Prime Tass, although workers there are on a four day week.

GM began the series production of cars at the plant in St Petersburg in February.

The plant builds the GM Daewoo-designed Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva SUVs and, from late 2009, the new Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan (also a GM-DAT product) will be added.
