GM hopes to sell 175,000 cars in Russia in 2007 – up from around 100,000 this year – according to Warren Brown, GM’s executive manager for Russia and the CIS.
GM sells five brand names in Russia, including Chevrolet, Opel, SAAB, Hummer and Cadillac. In addition, the joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ produces Chevrolet-Niva SUVs and Chevrolet-Viva cars, while the Kaliningrad-based assembly plant Avtotor makes several Cadillac and Chevrolet car models as well as Hummer and Chevrolet SUVs.
GM is currently building an assembly plant in St. Petersburg.
In 2005, GM sold about 80,000 cars in Russia.
