Russia’s Prime-Tass News Agency reports that car maker GAZ plans to export 250 Volga GAZ 3110 cars to Iraq by March 25, GAZ’ General Director Alexei Barantsev said on Tuesday.

Barantsev said that 198 of these cars have already been made. All the vehicles have been specially adapted for the hot weather conditions in Iraq. Earlier, GAZ officials said that these vehicles will be used as taxis.

In March, GAZ plans to produce about 1,500 cars for export to Iraq. By mid-2003, GAZ expects to supply about 5,000 cars to Iraq. GAZ signed a contract to supply Volga cars with Iraq’s Ministry of Trade in September 2001.

Currently, GAZ is negotiating with Iraq over the conditions of a new contract to supply 5,000 GAZ cars and vans of the Gazel family.
