GAZ Group says it has produced 739 buses for next year’s Sochi Winter Olympic Games in Russia, with nearly a third adapted for disabled athletes competing in the Paralympics.
The manufacturer has produced 709 GOLAZ and 30 LiAZ buses for the Games, which require the vehicles to withstand extreme winter temperatures on mountain roads.

“GAZ Group has fulfilled the contract for supplying buses for the Olympic Games in compliance with the requirements of the customer,” said GAZ parent, Russian Machines, CEO, Manfred Eibeck.
The buses were tested on the Olympic Games routes in Sochi.
“The Transportation Directorate pays particular attention to fleet quality – we control acceptance and give recommendations on improvements on technical features of the vehicles,” said Olympic Games transportation directorate, general director, Andrey Zhukov.
“The manufacturers had to take into account all these features, as the buses will be operated on mountain roads in winter. The buses have been tested on Olympic routes in the city and have demonstrated they are in excellent condition.”
