The carmaker said the new employees will work on the assembly line at the factory in Vsevolozhsk, close to St Petersburg. The plant currently employs 2,400 people and has been producing Focus and Mondeo sedans. The company did not give details about current or planned production.

The plant produced 29,300 cars through the first five months of 2010, up 31% over the same period last year. Vsevolozhsk has capacity to produce 125,000 cars a year, although the slowdown in the Russian new car market meant that only 41,000 were produced in 2009 forcing production shutdowns and a move to a four-day work week.
