Russia’s largest car manufacturer, AvtoVAZ, plans to start producing Lada Priora station wagons in 2009, according to a local report.
AvtoVAZ started selling Lada Priora sedans in April 2007 and sold 58,000 units by the end of the year, and, last month, started producing hatchbacks, Prime-Tass said. The C-segment Priora replaced the 110 model in 2007.
According to the news agency, Lada also said it planned to start producing new B- and C-segment cars, a new sports utility vehicle (SUV), a new 4×4 vehicle and new sports cars in 2011.
AvtoVAZ produces about 70% of all Russian domestic passenger cars and accounts for 40%-42% of total passenger car sales in the country. Its domestic car sales rose 6.2% year on year to 663,500 units last year, Prime-Tass said.
