Deputy prime minister Sergei Ivanov said that Russian automaker AvtoVAZ and truck producer Kamaz have spend a considerable amount on production of more complex engines meeting Euro-3 emission controls and higher standards.
Ivanov added, “A government decision to extend the production of Euro-2 emission standard fuel negatively affects Russia’s automobile industry.”
In September, extension of Euro-2 emission standard gasoline and diesel fuel production until 31 December 2012 was sanctioned by the government; for Euro-3 it is until 31 December 2014.
Previously, production of Euro-2 emission standard engines would have been ceased in 2010 and Euro-3 emission standard production in 2011.
