Russian car plant Avtotor plans to start assembling Chevrolet car models from kits supplied by South Korea’s GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, a market source told Prime-Tass on Tuesday, without providing timelines.

Avtotor may assemble the Chevrolet Aveo, Lacetti, Evando and Rezzo cars, the source said.

Avtotor is based in Russia’s westernmost Kaliningrad Region.

Its output increased 14% year on year to 16,648 cars in 2005.

Avtotor currently assembles Yuejing trucks, Kia Sportage SUVs, Kia Rio and Magentis cars as well as the BMW 5 series, GM’s Hummer H2, Chevrolet Tahoe and TrailBlazer and various Cadillac models.
