Moscow city Mayor Yuri Luzhkov has told Renault’s Carlos Ghosn that Avtoframos will build up Renault car production despite the economic crisis.

Luzhkov said he was satisfied with the growing Renault production, Prime-Tass reported.
Despite the world economic crisis Moscow will continue Renault production and sell Renault cars in Moscow and elsewhere in Russia, Luzhkov said.
The Moscow mayor approved a decision made by Renault to produce the Sandero model at the Avtoframos auto works in Moscow.
Renault cars account for 94.1 percent of Avtoframos overall capital. The Moscow government owns 5. 9 percent of shares in the joint car business. The JV mainly produces Renault Logan cars. In 2007 a total of 69,000 such cars were built; in 2008 car production went up to 73, 000.
The position of Avtoframos has looked a little uncertain since Renault’s strategic tie-up with AvtoVAZ, but analysts say the Moscow plant’s arrangement with Renault appears to have a future for now.
