Automobile output in Russia rose 3.7% year on year to 154,000 units in January-February, Russia’s economic development and trade ministry said.

Prime-Tass said the ministry attributed the results to growing assembly of foreign-brand cars at Russian plants and to Russians’ growing real disposable incomes.

The output of Russia’s largest carmaker AvtoVAZ rose 3.1%, the output of second largest car and truck maker GAZ rose 24.8% and output at Russia’s Serpukhov Automobile Plant, or SeAZ, increased 23.7% in January-February.

Among assembly plants, the output of Russia’s Rostov Region-based Taganrog Automobile Plant, or TagAZ, increased 57% year on year in the period, Ford’s output rose 39.5% and Avtoframos, a joint venture between the Moscow city government and Renault, was 5,722 cars in January-February – no comparison was made as Avtoframos did not assemble any cars a year ago.

The output at the Small Car Plant, or ZMA, and the Serpukhov Automobile Plant, or SeAZ, fell 52.6% and 39.4%, respectively, with both plants phasing out their Oka compact car model production.
