Russian car sales rose 51% year on year in August as economic recovery and an extension of a scrappage scheme continued to support growth.
The Association of European Businesses (AEB) said 57,115 cars were sold in Russia last month, well below the 173,171 July figure because of the traditional holiday season.
Meanwhile, car imports increased 5.5% year on year to 317,400 units in January–July, the Federal Customs Service said.
Truck imports rose to 23,600 units from 11,900 units.
In 2009, Russia’s car imports fell 74% to 521,000 units while truck imports fell to 24,000 units from 141,400 units in 2008.
