Car output in Russia amounted to 1.050m units in 2005, down from 1.110m cars in 2004, the Industry and Energy Ministry reported on Thursday, citing preliminary figures.
The 2005 figure is 100,000 units below the target, he told the Prime-Tass news agency.
Deineko attributed the decrease to the longer New Year holidays in early 2005, the decline in production at Russia’s second-largest car and truck maker GAZ, at compact car producer ZMA and at US-Russian auto manufacturing joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ, as well as the termination of production of Izh-Oda sedans by Russian carmaker IzhAvto. The company began to produce the Kia Spectra instead.
Preliminary data showed truck output rose 1% year on year in 2005, the ministry said, without providing details. Russian companies produced 202,212 trucks in 2005, Russia’s Avtoselkhozmash Holding (ASM), monitor of Russia’s auto manufacturing sector, said earlier, according to Prime-Tass.
