Ford plans to reduce the workforce at its Romanian B-Max assembly plant by around 500 people this year, a lower number than first indicated.

In November 2014 the company said it planned to lay off 20% of the workers – 680 people – at Craiova due to the weak European market.

Now Ford Romania has said: “… we are able to confirm that we have reached an understanding with unions to implement a reduced work schedule at the Craiova plant which will allow the company to avoid laying off approximately 170 people.”

About 490 employees have opted for a voluntary redundancy plan, Reuters reported.
