Rolls-Royce has won contracts worth $100 million and $432 million respectively to provide power for two African gold mines for Randgold Resources and to supply new regional jet engines to Solitair Corporation.

Randgold Resources of Jersey has awarded Roll-Royce Power Ventures (RRPV), the independent power project arm of Rolls-Royce, contracts to build and operate two diesel power stations.

The projects, for Randgold’s Morila and Syama gold mines in Mali, will use seven Rolls-Royce Allen 5012 diesel generating sets which have been specially developed for the power industry.

The contracts are worth $100 million over a ten year period. Last year Rolls-Royce won a similar size contract with Ashanti Goldfields in Tanzania.

In a separate announcement Rolls-Royce (RR.) said it had won new AE 3007 business worth up to $432 million following an order for Embraer RJ 145 regional jets placed by Solitair.

Solitair, which is majority owned by investment funds organized and managed by Wexford Management LLC, is converting 20 previous options into firm orders while also placing a new order for 15 firm aircraft and 45 additional options.

This increases the total number of Rolls-Royce powered Embraer aircraft ordered by Solitair to 90 aircraft.
