Rheinmetall’s Automotive arm has won an eight-year order from a unnamed international automaker to supply pumps for electric vehicles.
The supplier will be supplying two versions of its electric water recirculation pump via its Chinese joint venture, Pierburg Huayu Pump Technology.
The total lifetime value of the order amounts to EUR130m (US$143m); full-scale series production is scheduled to start in 2020.
The lifetime contract volume of all Automotive orders relating to e-mobility comes to around EUR1bn.
The electric pumps will be manufactured at the joint venture’s plant in Shanghai. They will be used in various battery-powered electric vehicles made by the globally operating OEM, which are destined for China and the wider Asian market.
Development of the components took place at the Pierburg plant in Hartha in the German State of Saxony. Pierburg is a subsidiary of Rheinmetall Automotive.
