Following a board meeting today, Luca de Meo has been confirmed as the new CEO of Renault.
The official announcement follows a period of talks – as reported by just-auto – between De Meo and Renault following his recent departure as Seat chief executive. After the loss of Carlos Ghosn, Renault faces a number of strategic questions – not least in clarifying its future relationship with Alliance partner Nissan.
In a statement, Renault said the board considered that ‘Luca de Meo, through his career, his experience and his success in his previous functions, combines all the qualities to contribute to all aspects of Groupe Renault’s development and transformation’.
Mrs. Clotilde Delbos, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Renault S.A. will continue to assume her functions until Luca de Meo takes office. In addition, the Board of Directors gave a favorable opinion on her appointment to the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Renault S.A., effective July 1, 2020.
Mr. Jean-Dominique Senard, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: “I am delighted with this new governance, which marks a decisive step for the Group and for the Alliance. Luca de Meo is a great strategist and visionary of a rapidly changing automotive world. His expertise but also his passion for cars make him a real asset for the Group. I also thank Clotilde Delbos who provides interim management of the Group in an exceptional manner. She has demonstrated day after day her commitment and determination in the service of Renault. Together, with the support of a renewed and strengthened executive committee, they will form a high-quality, multi-talented team equal to Renault’s ambitions.”
