Qatar has reported record sales of Volkswagen vehicles in the Middle East with 58% increase year on year in 2013, reports The Peninsula. The region reported a 30% increase during the year, For improving its growth in 2014, the company looks forward to unveil Golf R towards the end of 2014 and open new showrooms, with one in Qatar. 

“The Volkswagen Passat was the key driver for the outstanding performance in 2013 with 3,000 cars,” said Thomas Milz, managing director, Volkswagen, Middle East.

Milz said that the overall sales were 14,000 units and the country accounted for 1,300 cars in 2013.

Touareg reported sales of 3,000 units in the region. Apart from the best-selling Passat, Touareg and the Tiguan, the seventh generation Golf and Golf GTI has also added up to the growth.

Volkswagen plans to open a new showroom during Qatar Motor Show, which will be held in Doha in February. The automaker also looks forward to improve its sales and service network in the Middle East by opening four new showrooms and quick service centres in Sharjah, Fujairah and Dubai, and also has new plans for Kuwait and Beirut.

“We have heavy plans for Qatar. We will be launching quick and express service centres in Qatar to deliver better and speedy services for our customers,” said Kevin Hughes, general manager, Q-Auto, Volkswagen.

“We have a market share of two to three percent in the Middle East, we really need to double it. We have right network, right partners, right people and right products to achieve that target,” said Milz.

In 2014, Volkswagen also plans to restyle its successful Passat and Touareg by featuring more attractive and sportier design and power to match the lifestyle of the Middle East customers. The company will also unveil a seven-seater vehicle.

“This is something that can happen in one or two years as we are focusing a long-term plan for the region. We have invested heavily for the last two years in the region. We invested in facilities, network expansion, training people, resources and products. Now, we are harvesting our fruits. We have a constant growth in the Middle East and Qatar contributed in a major way to this growth story,” Milz said.
