Volkswagen has not yet decided whether or not to launch an exclusive model for China, its chairman said on Wednesday.

The automaker recently launched a special, larger, version of the Passat for North America which it will build in its new US plant in Chattanooga, Tennesee.

German daily Handelsblatt reported last week that Volkswagen was in advanced talks with Chinese partners about introducing a new brand especially for that market, Reuters noted.

“Not decided yet,” Ferdinand Piech told the news agency on the sidelines of an event in the Qatari capital.

Meanwhile, Piech declined to comment on whether VW would divest its stake in MAN.

Fiat has expressed interest in VW’s truck units – the German automaker holds key stakes in MAN and Scania – were they up for sale, the report added.
