Porsche said first quarter 2016 sales set a company record with 55,974 new vehicles delivered worldwide, a rise of 10% year on year.
The main growth drivers: the Macan model series and strong sales in China (up 23.5%).
SUV models were, as usual, the top sellers in the quarter led by the Macan with 21,576 sales, an increase of 20%, followed by the Cayenne with 17,598 sales (+8%). Porsche also noted "a marked increase in the demand for the two-door Cayman and Boxster" which, despite the coming model change to the 718 series, both saw two-digit growth rates. Boxster sales totalled 3,029 (+23%) while 2,822 Caymans were delivered (+27%). 911 sales were flat at 7,711 units.
China was again the strongest single Porsche market in Q1 2016 – 16,409 sales, ahead of the US (12,238; +7.1%).
Europe volume was flat with Germany flagging (off 14.7% to 5,994) though the automaker said "orders received in Germany are an optimistic sign".
