pJapanese car parts producer NGK-NTK is considering building a ceramic components factory in Poland, most probably in partnership with the Jelcz-Laskowice automotive company, in the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone (SSE), the Polish News Bulletin reported.
Citing unofficial sources, the report said that initial declarations mentioned an investment of about $US 60 million in a plant hiring 100 workers. SSE representatives declined to confirm plans of NGK-NTK and have only stated that they are observing increased interest in investments in the zone.
Automotive companies are drawn to the SSE by well prepared infrastructure, the close distance to borders with Germany and Czech Republic as well as to the airport in Wroclaw.
NGK-NTK might also have been influenced by Toyota’s decision to invest in the zone with construction recently started on a diesel engine plant worth 170 million euros, to be finished by 2005, the report said.
