Chery Auto is eyeing the acquisition of the Polish auto plant Fabyka Samochodow Oso-bouych (FSO) from its controlling stockholder Ukravto, local reports have said.
The local publication Dziennik Gazeta Prawna said that FSO would not confirm speculation the Chinese producer was ready to step in and buy the business.
However, FSO Janusz Wozniak CEO added negotiations concerning a sale were due to wind up shortly.
In 2009, production capacity of FSO was reduced to 59,695 units from 149,975 a year earlier.
The Polish press said in the first half of the year, production slipped 50% year on year to 15,500 units.
