Vehicle sales in the Philippines rose by 12.2% to 14,317 units in October, from 12,761 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI).
This brings the ten-month cumulative total to 141,218 units – 33% higher compared with the 106,146 units in the same period of 2009.
Sales of passenger cars increased by 32.2% to 49,485 units helped by strong demand for Toyota models – particularly the new Vios compact saloon. Sales of commercial vehicles, including SUVs, increased by 33.5% to 91,733 units.
Toyota sales increased by 27.4% in the ten-month period to 46,633 units, while second-placed Mitsubishi reported a 40.9% rise to 26,504 units.
Hyundai reported a 90% volumes increase to 17,118 units, to claim third place ahead of Honda.
The Association expects sales to exceed 170,000 units this year, which would be at least 28% higher than last year’s total. This would represent a new record for the market, beating the previous high set in 1996 of 162,000 units.
