New vehicle sales in the Philippines increased by close to 52% to 15,189 units in June, compared with 10,007 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc (CAMPI).
The strong June performance brings the half-year total to 82,147 units, up by just over 37% from 59,909 units a year earlier. Association president Elizabeth Lee cited ample stocks are feeding the country’s ”robust” demand for vehicles. “Higher sales volumes are also expected in the coming months,” she added.
First-half passenger car sales grew by 32.2% to 28,222 units, from 21,342 units a year earlier, while sales of commercial vehicle sales rose by just under 40% 53,925 units, from 38,567 units.
Toyota sold 26,493 vehicles in the six-month period, up by 28% on last year; followed by Mitsubishi with 15,653 units (+47%); and Hyundai Asia Resources 9,834 units (+101%).
