Sales of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines rose slightly in September though the nine month tally trailed that of last year.

In a statement cited by InterAksyon.com, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc (HARI) said sales last month rose 6% to 1,507 units from 1,421 in the same month last year. September sales however were slower than last August’s 1,877 units.

Passenger car sales jumped 44.1% to 1,026 from 712 last year, boosted by double-digit increases for Accent, Elantra and Eon, HARI said.

“The month was marked by a big recovery for the brand’s passenger cars, with supply levels giving the room for growth,” the company said.

Sales of Hyundai light commercial vehicles last month however dropped 32.2% to 481 from 709 last year.

During the first nine months, 16,220 Hyundai vehicles were sold, down 5.5% from the 17,156 sold last year, as both passenger cars and light commercial vehicles saw end-September sales dipping 7% and 3%, respectively.

“Hyundai’s second half offensive is definitely in full swing. With four consecutive months of growth, the brand is a mere 5% off its mark a year ago through the first nine months of 2013,” HARI president and chief executive Maria Fe Perez-Agudo said.

At the end of the third quarter, HARI was the third-largest vehicle seller, tailing Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation’s 53,570 units, and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation’s 31,306.
