Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI), the local unit of Japan’s Honda Motor Co., is expecting its automobile sales to rise 10-15% in 2000 from 12,987 units sold in 1999, as the automotive industry recovers from the 1997 Asian financial crisis, HCPI president Kenji Otaka said Monday. “The automotive market is slowly recovering. Our old models are still very well accepted in the local market,” Otaka said.
HCPI is the country’s third biggest automotive manufacturer in terms of sales in January-May, after disposing 5,666 units during the period.
The country’s total vehicle sales rose 20.2% to 34,025 units during the first five months from 28,297 units sold in the same period in 1999.
