Nissan Motor plans to streamline its global lineup and expand artificial intelligence (AI) deployment as part of a long-term turnaround strategy.

The carmaker will reduce its global model range to 45 from 56, withdrawing underperforming vehicles and redirecting investment towards higher-growth segments.

It aims to achieve annual sales of one million vehicles in both the US and China by the 2030 financial year.

In Japan, annual sales are targeted to reach 550,000 units over the same period.

This approach forms part of Nissan’s long-term vision, “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” which focuses on a customer-led strategy built around AI-defined Vehicles and broader electrification.

Within its technology roadmap, Nissan plans to embed AI into vehicle control and safety systems.

This will combine Nissan AI Drive and Nissan AI Partner technologies to improve mobility and the in-vehicle experiences.

The next-generation ProPILOT system, designed with end-to-end autonomous capability, will debut in the new Nissan Elgrand scheduled for summer 2026.

Full functionality is expected by the end of fiscal 2027.

Electrification remains a key focus of the plan.

The company will expand its e-POWER hybrid offering and introduce a wider mix of electrified powertrains, including systems for frame-based vehicles, plug-in hybrids and range extenders through partnerships.

Nissan will organise its portfolio into four categories – heartbeat, core, growth and partner – to clarify each model’s role and accelerate development timelines.

The company is also transitioning to an architecture-led industrial model under its Nissan Product Family strategy.

Three core product families are expected to account for over 80% of global volume and lift per-model volume by more than 30%.

Nissan added that its Re:Nissan plan remains on track in its final year, delivering improvements in cost structure, capacity use and product momentum to support future growth.
