NGK Spark Plug is expanding its production with a new plant in Komaki, Japan.
By 2020, the supplier plans to have reached annual production capacity of 1bn plugs – 30% more than today.
It has built an additional plant for spark plug components covering about 26,000 square metres at the company's existing site in Komaki.
Construction started in May 2015 and was completed last March at a cost of JPY7bn.
The factory will primarily manufacture centre electrodes and components for spark plug terminals. It is designed to be environmentally friendly, with low energy consumption and geothermal energy used for the air conditioning system.
