Nexteer Automotive has opened a new manufacturing plant in Pune, India.
It’s the supplier’s third manufacturing plant in India – joining plants in Bangalore and Gurgaon – and the 22nd globally.
“The Pune plant is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nexteer Automotive, covering an area of 35,000 square feet of shop floor with the capability for future expansion of an additional 35,000 square feet. The facility also provides 5,700 square feet of office space,” Madhav Kulkarni, managing director Nexteer India, said.
The Pune plant will focus mainly on half shaft component manufacturing and assembly for local customers, as well as supplying the Gurgaon factory. In the future, the new plant may also expand into electric power steering (EPS) production. The company anticipates the new plant will provide 120 jobs by the end of 2017.
Tao Liu, global vice president and Asia Pacific chief operating officer of Nexteer Automotive, said: “The opening of our facility in Pune and our expanded production capacity in India are important pieces in our long-term development strategy in India and represents our confidence in the growth potential of the automotive market within this region. With this strategic addition, we are able to better serve customers in both the domestic and international markets.”
