Mercedes-Benz announced the appointment of Bjorn Hauber as the new head of its South Korean importer and distributor from August, when the current president and CEO Dimitris Psillakis is scheduled to complete his five year tenure at the subsidiary.

Hauber is currently in charge of the German automaker's operations in Sweden and Denmark where he was responsible for implementing Mercedes-Benz's shift towards environment friendly vehicles.

He said in a statement: "I am extremely pleased to have been appointed as the new president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea.

"I will make all efforts to continue the success in the South Korean market by providing Mercedes-Benz's unique value and the best customer experience." 

Mercedes-Benz is the largest importer of vehicles in South Korea with sales of 78,133 units last year – up by more than 10% on the previous year.

First quarter 2020 sales were up by over 11% at 15,400 units.

Psillakis will take up the position of head of sales and product management at Mercedes-Benz USA on 1 September.
