Spyker has poured cold water on suggestions it is to launch a road version of its GT2 model for the Chinese market.
Speculation has raised the possibility of a Chinese GT2 being longer and wider, as well as the creation of a four-door version, but the Dutch manufacturer is refuting the claims.
“Spyker is not looking to make a road version of the GT2, which is the Le Mans racer,” a Spyker spokesman told just-auto. “Someone has got their wires crossed on this.
“Spyker recently launched into production the C8 Aileron which is a longer wheel base [and] will accommodate an automatic gear box. It is what the US market wants.”
The automaker does have a D8 four-door model in prototype stage, which it refers to as a “super sports utility vehicle,” designed for the so-called ‘BRIC’ countries of Brazil, Russia, India and China.
However, the Spyker spokesman insisted the D8 is “a back burner while Spyker concentrates on the Aileron – it is really some way off.”
