Hyundai Mobis on Wednesday said it has developed an on board, integrated, communications controller that enables "seamless connected car services" between vehicles and with 5G mobile networks.
The integrated communication controller enables real time communication between vehicles and with roadside 5G communications infrastructure, helping to improve road safety and providing drivers with access to road and traffic information and other services.
A Hyundai Mobis spokesman said: "Such real time communication technology in future vehicles has been available on Long Term Evolution networks."
The company cited a report by Japanese consultants Fuji Keizai Group which suggested the global market for connected cars is expected to grow to over 94m units by 2035 from 31m in 2019.
Hyundai Mobis is South Korea's largest components manufacturer with revenue of KRW38,049bn (US$31.7bn) in 2019, mainly from the sale of body and chassis systems to Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors.
The company has focused increasingly on developing autonomous driving and systems that support connected services.
