Volkswagen’s Mexican subsidiary said it produced 477,479 cars in the first 11 months of the year, passing its previous record of 450,000 in all of 2008.

Production at the automaker’s plant in the central city of Puebla is approaching its goal for the full year of 0.5m units, Volkswagen de Mexico told Dow Jones.

The January-November production was up 21% from the first 11 months of 2010 with production for export up 22% to just under 400,000.

The New Jetta continues to be the top model in terms of numbers produced, followed by the Golf Variant (wagon), Volkswagen added.

The Mexican Auto Industry Association plans to release industry-wide production and export data on 13 December.
