AG’s Mexican subsidiary expects local sales this year will be down five percent
from 2000, company senior executive Francisco Bada Sanz said.
He also said Volkswagen this year likely will face intense competition in the
Mexican compact segment from newly introduced models including Dodge’s Hyundai-made
Atos, Ford’s Icon and the French automaker Renault’s Clio.

Still, said the executive, Volkswagen Mexico this year plans to boost annual
output by three percent, to 435,000 vehicles.
