El Economista reports that Volvo has contracted the sale of 1,800 buses worth US$300mil to two local coach operators, Felcha Amarilla and Toluca. Both companies specialise in long distance and international transportation services in Mexico.
Volvo plans to deliver 600 buses per year to the two companies over the next three years and expects to assemble 1,800 units assembled in its local plant (acquired in 1998 from Masa) in 2002.
In the first five months of this year, Volvo sold 151 buses locally against 425 in the same period of last year. The company also produced 460 buses against 783 last year.
