Mexican production of cars and light trucks rose 35% in September to 197,418 vehicles compared with the sale month a year ago due to strong exports to the US, the Mexican Auto Industry Association said.
Exports rose 44% to 169,510 vehicles in September, while domestic sales grew at a slower 13% pace to 65,932, said the association.
From January to September, auto output was 67% higher than in the same period in 2009 – 1.66m units vs 992,153. Exports in the first nine months of the year increased by 71% to 1.38m vehicles and domestic sales rose 7% to 565,789.
The auto industry is Mexico’s largest single manufacturing sector, and has been a key driver of growth in industrial output this year.
