Hella has broken ground on its new Irapuato lighting facility in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. Total spend is about US$100m.

The factory will produce LED lighting.

By June of this year, about 1.2m headlamps and 1.5m rear combination lamps will be produced at the 24,000 sq m plant for North and South America. The new factory will increase the supplier’s combined total production capacity for these regions from 3.7m headlamps to 4.9m and from 2.5m rear combination lamps to 4m.

Hella has had operations in Mexico since 1964. A year ago, it built a new design and development center in Guadalajara that now employs 65. It has about 2,500 workers in North and South America.
