General Motors (GM) de Mexico says that has no intention of closing plants or sacking workers as a result of the slowdown in the US economy.

The GM subsidiary does not expect much effect on Mexican sales and plans to increase production by three to 5 percent over 2000 this year.

GM sold over 18 million vehicles worldwide in 2000 and expects this to fall by 1.5 million in 2001.
