Mercedes-Benz Cars sales fell 4% year on year to 510,600 units in the third quarter of 2023 with the automaker describing the result as “a solid performance in a volatile market”.

Volume was restrained by the E-Class update change over and “a supply chain bottleneck which constrained availability of the GLC”.

Hybrid and electric vehicles now account for 20% of the brand’s sales while battery electric (BEV) sales were up 66% to 66,100 units in the quarter. In the first nine months of the year, BEV sales rose 97%.

Overall sales rose 2% to 1,529,800 units in the nine months to 30 September, in line with full year guidance of keeping sales at the 2022 level.

In Europe, Q3 sales increased 12% to 164,200 units and reached 485,200 units (+8%) year to date (YTD).

Sales in Asia were flat at 736,300 units (+0%).
