Volkswagen in Malaysia plans to introduce nine new models into Malaysia over the next two years, financial weekly The Edge reported, citing the company’s managing director Axel Barth.

“We will introduce nine completely built up models in 2006 and 2007,” Barth said.

“These will start from the lower range, for example, the Polo and reach premium models such as the Beetle, Golf GTi, Jetta, Passat as well as MPVs.”

Barth said that Volkswagen also plans to set up 12 new dealership outlets in Malaysia over the same period, with the first scheduled to open this May.

Barth added Volkswagen is planning to start assembling its vehicles in Malaysia by 2008 or 2009, with a local partner.
