Volkswagen is stepping up its expansion into the Malaysian auto market with the launch of the locally assembled Jetta sedan this week.
The brand has set a sales target of 20,000 units this year, or around 3% of the total vehicle market, compared with 11,500 units in 2013. Around 65% of these are expected to be built locally.
The Jetta is assembled at a joint venture plant with DRB-Hicom in Pekan alongside the Polo and Passat models. It comes with a 1.4L twin-charged engine and seven-speed twin clutch gearbox.
Prices start at MYR130,888 (US$40,140) compared with just under MYR152,000 for the built up model.
