New vehicle sales in Malaysia rose by 8.7% to 40,654 units in February, from 37,386 a year earlier, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
Month-on-month, sales fell by 19.7%, however, due to the Lunar New Year holidays in February. Passenger vehicle sales amounted to 36,552 units and commercial vehicles 4,103 units.
Sales in the first two months of the year rose by 21% year-on-year to 88,008 units, reflecting improving domestic sentiment as economic conditions improve. Sales growth is expected to continue in subsequent months.
