Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby Bhd has secured the franchise to import completely assembled BMW vehicles, including the Mini brand, effective 1 January, the company has said.
Sime has been appointed as the importer and supplier of the vehicles to BMW Malaysia, which will distribute the cars to its dealers, Sime stated in reply to a stock exchange query over a newspaper report on the deal.
The Edge Financial Daily reported on Wednesday that Sime has secured the franchise after Cartrade Sdn Bhd’s contract as the sole importer of the BMW marque in fully assembled form was terminated on 31 December.
These fully-imported cars supplement the brand’s 3- and 5-series models which are assembled locally.
