New vehicle sales in Malaysia increased by 9.2% to 58,561 in June, from 53,631 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

The association attributes the market’s strong performance to the country’s strong economic activity, with first-half GDP growth estimated at around 5.2% – driven by strong domestic consumption and improving exports.

First-half sales increased by 6.3% to 333,142 units, from 313,488 units in the first half of last year.
